Our Charitable Cause ‘24

New Year, same goal - to make a positive change in the lives of those in need.

Off the back of raising a sensational $21,000 for Perth Homeless Support Group in 2023, our committee re-grouped to see where our time and resources could be best channeled to make a difference within the Perth community.

With violence against women and domestic violence dominating state and national headlines in late 2023, our committee saw the need to drive change and conversation, confirming it as our Charitable Cause for this year.

Why Western Australia Domestic Violence?

According to the Ombudsman’s Family and Domestic Violence Fatality Review 2022-23, there were 16 reviewable family and domestic violence fatalities received in 2022-23. This was almost double the 9 received in 2021-22.

As part of the State Government’s 16 Days in WA campaign in November 2023, it was also highlighted that37% of homicide and related offences were related to family and domestic violence in 2022. 64%, or 24,896, of assaults in WA were family and domestic violence related during the same period.

The State Government’s report also confirmed that domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness amoung women and children.

At 4 November 2023, six women in Australia had been killed within a two week period - allegedly by people they knew or their intimate partner.

There are too many lives being taken to early. Too many women and children seeking crisis accommodation for fear of living in their own home.

Join us in being part of the critical change that our community needs. We’ll be hosting the Taste of Change late in 2024, with all event proceeds going to making a difference to those in our community fleeing violent homes.
